Originally know as Bath Swim Therapy, when the Frome Otters Hydro Club was set up in 2006 it opened a door for so many children. The club offers after-school swimming lessons for children with disabilities, allowing them to enjoy the freedom of the water and learn to swim safely, just like mainstream kids.

 

The club is the only one of its kind in the area and our kids' only opportunity to learn to swim. They get specialist input from a physiotherapist and access to a warm water hydrotherapy pool, enabling them to make fantastic progress.

 

Through games and activities the children develop balance, breath control and independence in the water until eventually they are able to swim safely and confidently. The benefits are many: a sense of achievement; improved fitness; a sense of belonging and, most of all, a lot of fun!

 

In addition, the club is a lifeline for the parents of disabled children. Not only is it a supportive, positive environment where they can go with their kids, it also gives them a chance to meet other parents in similar situations. The club helps alleviate the isolation they can sometimes feel and offers the chance to make new friends and do something fun together.

 

It is so important that these sessions continue to run, so we can continue to benefit from the specialist input and support that this wonderful group provides.
